Do you find yourself being defeated by your enemy simply because you are not being allowed to proceed to the next age in Age of Empires? If you start in the Stone Age and are attacked by your enemies even as you are at the last stages of moving on to the Iron Age, then your progress will be of no use whatsoever. So, what steps should you take?

It is important to understand that there is a huge difference in defeating a final attacked and stopping and ambush. The fact that your enemy has chosen to attack you very early in the death match clearly indicates that he or she is trying to destroy you before you become a threat.

If you simply make it too uneconomical for the enemy to continue the attack, you will automatically succeed. How? Well, why don’t you focus on researching walls and why don’t you build a wall to protect your encampment? The idea of building a wall and protecting your site may seem unnecessary when it will just be made of wood.

Well, you always have the option of moving on to the next age and then converting the stonewall into palisades and then into iron and brick walls. Further, once you create the walls, you will have sufficient warning before the attack reaches your town center.

If you build the wall at a wide expanse, you can easily use your military buildings to create more cavalrymen and archers even as the attack is taking place on the outskirts of your town center.

It is advisable to build a military establishment slightly far away from the wall. The idea is to enhance your view and get an early warning of an impending attack. The structure that you create is not to be protected. Rather, it is merely a bait that will distract your enemy while you get sufficient time to plan for reprisals.
